Wood Corbel Brackets

time2009/02/17

In commercial and residential architecture there has been a growing trend of bringing back detail, especially on the exterior. This has been especially true in architectural hot spots across the country and even more so during the housing recession and buyers market of 2008.

Cedar wood corbel brackets are one of the ways that architectural detail is being brought back to architecture. They can be custom built locally for fairly cheap by a local carpenter, siding company, or trim company. Many trim companies will build them and install them during the trim installation for new construction. For larger projects, it may be ideal to consult with a manufacturing company that may be better equipped for mass production at an affordable price.

If the brackets need not be structural you may wish to consider an alternative such as polyurethane foam. A custom mold can be made to mass produce the brackets on the cheap or a stocked item may already exist to meet your needs.

If, however, the brackets need to be structural as well as custom, then cedar wood brackets are probably the best way to go. Cedar brackets and cedar corbels can be sealed or painted and will last an extremely long time. The natural preservatives in Cedar make it highly desirable for resisting rot and the elements. As an ideal choice of wood, cedar is also very beautiful when treated properly and left unpainted and can lend a very natural look to a custom built home that is quite attractive to many home buyers.

Cedar brackets and architectural brackets are a great way to add a craftsman touch to a home and set it apart in a neighborhood. The are generally used under eaves, overhangs, and in soffits to lend function and beauty to the home. The method of installation usually involves the use of long lag screws that can be counter sunk through the brackets and mounted to a load-bearing portion of the home behind or above it. Countersunk holes are usually then plugged with similar material to conceal the installation.

The craftsman style of architecture has been making a comeback in recent years as the buyers market pushes the housing market towards higher quality, more detail, and longer lasting materials. With this expect to see more detail such as cedar brackets and more used to attract these home buyers toward these types of homes
